Near West Side Collaboration

Since June of 2011, Main Street Wausau has been gathering Near West Side stakeholders on a regular basis to establish development priorities for the area and plans for how we will work together to generate positive changes relative to these priorities. Click here to view a document outlining these development priorities and initial plans for change. Click here to download the Near West Side Master Plan, a planning document created in 2008 and adopted by the City of Wausau that provides recommendations to guide public and private improvements over the next one to two decades.
Since these meetings began, positive change has spurred - from pedestrian safety enhancements and plans for beautification at the City level, to volunteer clean up efforts coordinated by The Salvation Army. Contact us to be included in communications and meeting notices related to these efforts.
Crime Prevention Tools

As a business or property owner, you can take a proactive role in reducing criminal opportunity in and around your property by participating in a variety of crime prevention initiatives to decrease your losses and increase your bottom line, including the following:
Report Suspicious Activity
Businesses can prevent crime by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the Police Department without delay so law enforcement officers can investigate them. The dispatch non-emergency number is 715.261.7798.
Pass on information about suspicious persons or activities to the Main Street office. Our office will distribute this information by email to our business community to alert employees and residents of the activity. Contact Dawn at Dawn@MainStreetWausau.org or 715.845.1328 to do so.
Security Survey
Reduce your vulnerability to crime by taking advantage of a FREE Security Survey courtesy of the Wausau Police Department. During a Security Survey, a Police Officer will visit your business and evaluate its physical and procedural security measures. The officer will inform you of how your particular business may be most susceptible to crime, and factors that may make their business an attractive target to prospective criminals. The officer will complete the survey by offering specific suggestions on security improvements you may want to consider to lower your potential to become a victim of crime. Officers can also work with you to target specific concerns or issues you may be experiencing. To schedule a Security Survey, contact Wausau Police Department Patrol Captain, Dwayne Dachel, at 715.261.7808.
Be Informed
The Wausau Police Department makes available the following resources to keep you informed of criminal activity:
Daily Report Log: Each non-holiday weekday, a log is displayed of the reports generated by Officers during the prior 24 hours, or prior 72 hours, if on a Monday. This content of this log is an information sharing tool. If additional information is sought on any specific topic, you are to contact the Wausau Police Department at 715-261-7800 or police@ci.wausau.wi.us.
